Construction News :
April 2010 - The 1.99 miles of trail from Eldean Park alongside County Road 25A (CR-25A) to Twin Arches Park, under the I-75 bridge over CR-25A and 600 feet north of I-75 was completed. In 2009. Miami County Parks will build a bicycle bridge across the Great Miami River at the current end point into the old "Caldwell Farm" on the East bank of the River. The trail will go North through the property and cross Peterson Road to connect to the existing Rivers Edge Trail - South (Nominal Name). This trail will be finished in 2011 by the completion of a small bridge over a water course at the trail's Southern end; Peterson Road.
| The trail will continue South from Eldean Road to connect to the Troy Trail's Northernmost point at Lytle Road in the future. There will be a link here to take you to that trail page, (when completed). | |
|
Photos on this page are shown South to North |

| At right is a Bing "Bird's Eye" view photo of the end of the Troy Trail at Lytle Road. If you Click Here, you'll be taken to the Bing website and this photo. CR-25A is just right (West) of this photo and you can see where the trail goes alongside the road on it's way to Piqua. | |

The trail photos start at
Eldean Road Park and move from South to North through Twin Arches Park |

|
Here at left is a map of the seven named
trail sections being built. Also the cities of Piqua, Troy and Tipp City have
constructed connecting sections so that the trail can start at
Taylorsville MetroPark in Montgomery County and end in Sidney in Shelby
County.
I have a map of the completed Sections for your viewing pleasure Click Here for a printable map

| The current trail starts at Eldean Park on County Road 25A at Eldean Road. This is a image of the old covered bridge over the Great Miami River at Eldean Road. | |
| Here we are on the South side of Eldean Road in the park. At the end of the road to the right of the trees is the Covered Bridge. The road in the foreground is Eldean Road looking East almost to the modern bridge over the Great Miami River. | |
| In this photo we are looking at the North side of Eldean Road into the park. There are baseball diamonds on both sides of the road in the park. Eldean Road is at the right in this photo and the two red trucks are at the parking lot for the trail. It runs North from here. The trucks were a contractor seeding both sides of the trail when we were there in October 2009. | |
| Here we are in the parking lot looking North on the new trail. It runs alongside and just West of the Great Miami River following, for the most part the route of the old Miami & Erie Canal. | |
|
This is a picture of Troy Elevator
Company's grain elevator on CR-25A North of Troy. I provide this
photo since the elevator is a very large building and can be seem from
many parts of the trail in this area, it serves as a landmark in the area for the trail.
|
|
| At left we are .7 miles North of the trail's start at Eldean Park. We are at Twin Arches Reserve. Across the street from the Reserve is the Upper Valley Medical Center. As you can see there is a signal light so you can get into the Reserve easily from County Route-25A. | |
| Here we see the sign for Twin Arch Reserve at Eldean Road at County Route 25A in Miami County North of Troy. | |
| At left is a Bing "Bird's Eye" view photo of the Twin Arch Reserve. If you click on the link above you'll be taken to the same picture and you can navigate at will the new trail's location. Be advised that the images may not have been updated so the trail may not show in Bing. | |
| This is a picture of the trail South of the parking lot at the Twin Arch Reserve. As I explained in a previous picture, in the right background is the Troy Elevator. The trail is parallel to the Great Miami River (to left in photo) and the Fishing Pond (to right in photo). | |
| Here we are in the same place on the trail, but now we are looking North, back towards the parking lot of the Twin Arch Reserve. If you look closely at the larger photo (click on the photo) you can see a red truck in the background. That's the contractor's truck seeding both sides of the trail that we saw earlier at Eldean Park. | |
| We are almost back to the parking lot which you can see in the background. The trail curves around from being close to the river to being close to CR-25A. | |
|
Just North of the County Route 25A parking
lot is the
famous Twin Arch. This bridge over the stream you can see here was a viaduct that
carried the old Miami
& Erie Canal (Free Booklet) over it in the 1840's. The trail follows much of the old canal's route.
For more information about this park See Twin Ach Reserve webpage from the Miami County Park District website. |
|
| In this photo at right, we are looking North from the parking lot towards the Twin Arch that you saw in the photo above. The small sign at the right of the photo is the descriptive information about the Arch. The trail goes directly over it. | |
| Here we are looking South, back along the trail to the parking lot at the Twin Arch. You can see in the background the Troy Elevator which is close to this trail section's start at Eldean Park. | |
| Here we are at river level looking North on the Great Miami River just next to the Twin Arch. It was a beautiful Fall day and I liked how the river looked. | |
| In this photo we are still at the Twin Arch looking North along the trail. There is a couple bicycling towards us. They stopped and spoke to me. | |
| At right we are now 1.8 miles North of the trail section's start. We are just South of the I-75 bridge where the trail goes under it. | |
| In this photo, we have walked North about 100 yards and are looking at I-75 going over the trail. Where the trail goes under the I-75 bridge it is about 10' above the Great Miami River. | |
| Here we have passed under the I-75 bridge and are looking North to the end of the trail. It is 600' North of the bridge. | |
| In this last photo, we are looking back (South) down the trail to the I-75 bridge over the new trail section. This section of the Great Miami River Recreation Trail (Miami County) is 1.99 miles long. | |
| Yahoo Maps See Eldean Park (Yahoo Maps Label) in the middle of the picture. Navigate North to see I-75 and West Peterson Road. Navigate South to see Paul G. Duke Park in Troy, Oh. | |
