Trail Construction and Improvements
Middletown Trail South Nears Completion – The new 4 mile trail section from State Route 122 to Old State Route 73 is almost completed. I have been informed that the trail is 95% complete with only the addition of fences needed to complete it. I have no dedication date as yet and have not been able to ride and photograph this new section of the Great Miami River Recreation Trail.
Website Changes and Improvements
New Miami To Miami Trail Page – I have added a new page to the website accessible from the leftmost drop down menu. It’s under “Trails in Warren County” in the drop down menu. The new 84 mile trail, when completed, will run East and West from the Little Miami Scenic Trail North of Loveland to Hamilton on the Great Miami River Recreation Trail currently being built in sections. I have been attempted to contact the organizations that are building this trail but have not been able to find the primary group to get updates for you. From this page you can get copies of the 2002 study from the City of Fairfield homepage. The basic study is 88 pages (8Mb) and you can get the maps (128Mb) as well as the other appendixes. I will be putting a smaller version of the maps on this webpage.
Trail Etiquette and Safety Page - I have added more safety information to my Trail Etiquette and Safety Page. As you may know we’ve had several cyclist fatalities in the Miami Valley this cycling season. I’m adding tips for cyclists and I plan to add the section on Bicycles from the “Digest of Ohio Motor Vehicle
Laws."
Milford to Lunken Airport Page – I have added material to this page which is the most Southern Section of the Little Miami Scenic Trail. I have new pictures to show construction work and have a new map from the Hamilton County Parks District. It shows all of the sections of the 8.8 miles of trail that will be built from Milford which is the current end of trail South to the existing trail around Lunken Airport.
City of Beavercreek Plan Bike Routes
- I attended a City of Beavercreek Bikeway Advisory Committee meeting recently. Chaired by Roger Brislawn they have been at work for several years to provide “Neighborhood Connector – Share the Road Signs” and other signage to the city. These signs help cyclists get to their destination safely by using less traveled city streets. I have added a link from the Creekside
Trail webpage to their website as well. Check out their maps with their
routes at the bottom of their webpage.
City of Riverside Plans
Trail
– As a Riverside resident I have been attending Planning Committee and
Parks and Recreation Committee
meetings lately to discuss the possibility of extending a bicycle spur near Eastwood MetroPark under the Norfolk-Southern railroad tracks using an existing tunnel to Riverside’s new Center of Flight. The Center of Flight is on the old DAP property and is directly across from the Air Force Museum. It is planned to contain a hotel an office building and restaurants. The trail that this spur will connect to is being planned by Five Rivers MetroParks to extend 15.1 miles from Eastwood MetroPark through Huffman MetroPark and on to Enon.
