July 2003
Dear Miami Valley RailTrails List Readers - 27 July 2003. It's "High Summer" and many of you are doing a lot of outdoor activities including using our large, and growing, trail system.
New Trail Construction - Here I get to tell you about what trails are being built for your cycling (walking, running and rollerblading pleasure).
New
Trail Construction in Piqua - The City of Piqua has been working
this Summer on what they call "Phase Five" of the construction of
their Piqua Linear Park. The current 4.5 mile trail
extension runs North from downtown Piqua along the Miami River levee
starting at Lock Nine Park and will end at the Water Plant connecting to the
Hydraulic Canal Path that runs North
from French Park along the Hydraulic Canal to the water plant. When finished
this Summer Piqua will have built a loop from downtown north to the water
plant and then south from there along the Hydraulic Canal Path to French
Park which connects to the East and West section of the Piqua Linear Path.
The City of Piqua's
Website has great photos of pre construction and construction.
Bravo! City of Piqua!
"Miami River trail is starting to
take shape" - That's what the Dayton Daily News used as their
headline. As you remember from last month the first section was dedicated in
Concord Township on the route of the old Miami-Erie Trail from Dye Mille
Road to the Monroe Township line. Last month they received an additional
$50,000 grant to work on a river bridge near State Route 202. This will
continue the trail from Dye Mill Road to Troy. The group building the trail
has decided on the trails' direction north from Troy to Piqua and they have
either bought the right-of-way in the area or have secured control of it.
Plans are being made to extend North from Troy to Piqua. Going South the
planners are working on the third phase of the trail to Tipp City.
Eventually the trail will extend from Five Rivers MetroParks (Montgomery
County) Taylorsville MetroPark through Miami County and ending in Shelby
County. When finished the trail will provide connectivity North from the
existing trail system in Montgomery, Greene, Clark and Champaign
Counties.
That's it for July 2003. Construction is continuing on several trails. If you find out something about trail construction don't keep it to yourself. Tell me and then I'll tell all my readers. Keep in touch to learn more about our continually expanding trail system.
This is a repeat from last month. I noticed on the MSN
web page that I use to mail these emails to you that a lot of you are not having your emails from me
delivered to your home mailbox. The way that works is you have to go to the website to see if I have sent out a monthly newsletter. It might be easier for you if you go up to the website and change your preferences to having these emails
delivered directly to your home mailbox. That way you don’t have to look for these emails; they are sent direct to whatever email address you specify.
I can't do this for your account. You have to change your pretences to
"Deliver to my mailbox."
If you find these newsletters and my Miami Valley RailTrails website of use to you, pass the information on to your friends and neighbors who might enjoy our wonderful system of multi-use trails in
Southwest Ohio. They are wonderful for walking, running,
bladeing, birding and cycling. You see more wildlife from one of our trails.
All of my newsletters are posted to my website at the same time I send you this text version. The URL for your use is:
