July 2004
Hello MVRT Members - It's 25
July. It's the middle of Summer and I have news for you.
Simon Kenton Trail in
Champaign County I am told that the
Simon Kenton Trail is almost ready to open Phase III of its construction.
The trail runs North from the Buck Creek Trail to Urbana. It currently ends at
State Route 55. Construction includes putting the trail under Rt.55 thru a
box culvert. Then the trail will continue into Urbana connecting to the
Melvin Miller Park, YMCA, Champaign County Library, Urbana University,
Johnny Appleseed Museum, and Industrial Park. I am informed by the
Pathfinders that weather delays have postponed the dedication to September
or October 2004. (added 7/27/04)
Siebenthaler
Bridge Opening - The new Siebenthaler Bridge over the Stillwater
River is complete. The dedication is Wednesday 28 July at 1130. The opening
of the bridge will help citizens who have been inconvenienced for several
years. The opening of the new bridge is more important to cyclists. The
Great Miami River Recreation Trail along the Stillwater River has been
closed at this point for more than two years. I hope that all of you that
use the trail in this area are as happy as I am to see the bridge opened and
the trail once more free of impediment.
Tour de France For the last three weeks I have been watching the Tour de France to see if Lance Armstrong could win his sixth (and record breaking ) Tour de France win. As of today Sunday 25 July Lance won an amazing sixth Tour de France. Like some of you, I look up to Lance Armstrong for his amazing abilities. Some of us (not me) would like to be like Lance, if only for a short while. But you know I am also impressed with the Lance Armstrong Foundation (LAF) see story below.

The website says: "The LAF believes that in your battle with cancer, knowledge is power and attitude is everything. From the moment of diagnosis, we provide the practical information and tools you need to live strong." |
