Newsletter
September 2003
Dear Miami Valley RailTrails List Readers - 23 September 2003. It's Fall! We only have a few good weeks of trail use left. But there is news in the Miami Valley about new multi-use trails. So read on.
New on Miami Valley RailTrails site.
First I'm going to tell you about what is new on the Miami Valley RailTrails site.
New Trail Construction - Here I get to tell you about what trails are being built for your cycling (walking, running and rollerblading pleasure).
Simon Kenton Trail
- On Saturday 27 September at 10 AM at the Clark/Champaign County line
the new trail was dedicated. The ceremony was held on County Line
Road at the Park & Ride on the trail. You can get there by driving up US
Route 68 from Springfield and turn left at County Line Road. Or you
can look at my map of the area
Great
Miami River Trail - This Summer the Task Force in Miami County
opened the first 1.6 miles and the first of seven planned sections of the
trail. I have not yet seen it but there are photos of it on the new
webpage.
Wolf Creek
Recreation Trail This Summer Five Rivers
MetroParks built a 1 mile section of trail on the levee along the Wolf Creek
where it empties into the Great Miami River in downtown Dayton. The trail
connects with the Great Miami River Recreation Trail
. At the other end of the new construction the trail comes up out of the
river and joins an existing 2 mile trail along James. H. McGee Blvd.
Eventually the trail will be connected to the existing 13 mile section of Wolf
Creek Recreation Trail that runs from Trotwood to Verona.
Little
Miami Scenic Trail - More information on construction from Milford
South towards Lunken airport and the Ohio River. This information comes from
Hamilton County Parks Department.
The trail is being extended south to Lunken Airport. The trail is expected to be open to Clear Creek Park in Anderson Township by 2005. The Hamilton County Park District has not acquired all of the land necessary to get from Clear Creek Park to Lunken Airport so a scheduled date cannot be forecast. After the trail reaches Lunken Airport the trail will have to be built South from there to the Ohio River and Cincinnati. Click
on the link for the current schedule.
That's it for September 2003. Construction is about over for 2003. If you find out something about trail construction don't keep it to yourself. Tell me and then I'll tell all my readers. Keep in touch to learn more about our continually expanding trail system. I will probably send you a newsletter every other month during the Winter unless I find out something I think you'll want to know about.
If you find these newsletters and my Miami Valley RailTrails website of use to you, pass the information on to your friends and neighbors who might enjoy our wonderful system of multi-use trails in
Southwest Ohio. They are wonderful for walking, running,
bladeing, birding and cycling. You see more wildlife from one of our trails.
All of my newsletters are posted to my website at the same time I send you this text version. The URL for your use is:
