News! The trail is being extended south to Lunken Airport in stages. The Hamilton County Park District (HCPD)  has not acquired all of the land necessary to get from Clear Creek Park to Lunken Airport so a scheduled date cannot be forecast. After the trail reaches Lunken Airport the trail will connect with the Ohio River Trail and will continue South from there to the Ohio River and Cincinnati.

At left is a "Google Earth" image of the same area. If you look at the top right of the photo you'll see "Lila Avenue". That is Milford. It intersects "Wooster Pike" which is State Route 50 at Milford and SR50 crosses the Little Miami Scenic River going to the Southwest.  You can easily see the route of the trail in the City of Terrace Park. It is a diagonal line running Northeast to Southwest. Match it to the blue line from Milford to Avoca in the map above.

Near the bottom left you'll see "Church Street" which is also "Newtown Road" as in the map above. The Little Miami Golf Center can be seen West of the Church Street/ Wooster Pike intersection.
This satellite photo gives you a good feel for the route.

Milford to Avoca through Terrace Park Section

The trail is almost finished from Milford to the Little Miami Golf Center on Newtown Road an additional 4.4 miles of trail.

The new trail starts where the trail to Milford stopped just below the large cell phone tower. Here we are .16 miles South of that tower In the background of this picture you can see a bridge. That is the trail bridge over Wooster Pike (Route 50) entering the City of Terrace Park. We are looking Southwest in this picture.

In this photo we have crossed Wooster Pike which is Route 50. We are looking back to the Northeast from where we have come.
Here we are .80 miles down the trail looking at the Elm Street bridge in Terrace Park over the trail.

Here we are standing on the Elm Street bridge looking down on the trail below us. We are looking Southwest.
We are just South of the Elm Street bridge. As you can see from the photo some of the old railway equipment is still in place. There is a signal tower to the right of the trail in the sun that was used to send information to the trains.

We are now 1.44 miles South from Milford. We are looking Southwest towards Avoca Park, Just where the wood railing starts is the second Elm Avenue bridge.
Just ahead, Avoca Park. Looking Southwest. Route 50 (Wooster Pike)  is on the right. If we could see it the Little Miami Scenic River is on our left.

We have reached Avoca Trail Head. This picture was taken on the Northeast side of Avoca Park looking Southwest. The parking lot opens onto Wooster Pike and holds about 50 cars. There is a permanent set of restrooms . You can see a young lady getting a drink from the water fountain. We are 3.2 miles South of Milford.

Avoca to Newtown Road South  (South of Trail Head)

Trail was dedicated 10 June 2006 for the trail South from the Avoca Trail Head South to Newtown Road. The trail North and South of the Avoca Trail Head equals .75 miles. (See Bike Map

Newtown Road Bridges (.25 miles Complete)

The trail extends West from the Avoca Trail Head  Here we have crossed under Newtown Road north of the River and are looking Southwest under Newtown Rd. The trail past Newtown Rd. takes a loop to the left to go over the Little Miami. The old rail line continued straight ahead. About 1 mile or so the tracks are still laid down to the Clare yards.

Here we are looking back North. Newtown Rd. is on the right and the Bass Island parking lot is to the left. The Bass Island
driveway is at the stop sign. The bike bridge in the background goes over Dry Run Creek and beyond that is the bridge going over the Little Miami Scenic River. We are 4.16 miles from Milford.

In this photo by our other photographer; Dave Dumbacher, we are looking North toward Bass Island from the 55 mile marker. The Little Miami Golf Center is on the left or West.

You will notice the "55" on the trail just ahead of Dave's bicycle. I was notified by the Little Miami Scenic Park management that they, Warren and Greene Counties had decided to change the mileage markers on the Little Miami Scenic Trail. Now you'll find the "0 miles" marker at Xenia Station  in Greene County. Mileage is measured South of Xenia Station. So we are now 55 miles from Xenia.

Here we are at the entrance of the Little Miami Golf Center, the end of the trail. I am informed that if you want to park here, there is a $2 fee. There are restrooms and water at the LMGC.

f you look at the  Hamilton County Parks Map  you can see that the planned trail will go South of the golf center and then turn West and follow Clear Creek 1.3 miles until it reaches Clear Creek Park. This is planned for 2008-2009.

I have been provided new photographs (June 2006) through the generosity of Mr. Mike Mueller & Mr. Dave Dumbacher.
If my mathematics are correct the completed trail from the current Little Miami Scenic Trail end in Milford to the Lunken airport is a total of 8.8 miles and it will be completed in 2008 or later.
After the Little Miami Scenic Trail reaches Salem Av and Kellogg (US 52).just South of Lunken Airport it will become the Ohio River Trail.  This planned trail will run West from the Village of New Richmond 16 miles connecting with Little Miami Scenic Trail and eventually reaching downtown Cincinnati. I have added a webpage to the website for the Ohio River Trail

There is a statement from the Hamilton County Parks District.

Hamilton County Parks Statement 2 March 2006

... The Park District is working on engineering for the trail segment from Little Miami Golf Center to Clear Creek Park on Route 32. This segment is currently scheduled to begin work in late 2007. Anderson Park District will construct a short segment through their soccer facility to reach Route 32. The Park District is continuing to negotiate with a property owner for a portion of the corridor needed along Route 32 to Beechmont Ave.
