This is a Google Map of the new 1.92 mile trail segment. It starts at State Route 4 North of Middletown.  I have marked the route of the trail in red on the photo at left.

See also the Yahoo Map  (You may have to Zoom In to see the "Thumb")  You can clearly see in Yahoo Maps "the thumb" shape at left in the photo. The trail goes around the edge of the thumb.

The trail starts on State Route 73 also known as North Verity Parkway, Northeast of Middletown. We are starting on the North end of the new trail segment. You can see construction equipment in the area where the parking lot was built across Verity Parkway at the streetlamp.

Here is a closer view of the parking lot at the end of the new segment. The parking lot appears to be open. Lines are painted and the equipment has moved off site.
This photo was taken from about the same location as the image below except looking North on the new segment. The photo was taken about 50 yards from the trail
to try and get a view of both the South and North end of the trail. From this photo it is about 100 yards to the new parking lot.

This image is looking South down the new segment. The old landfill is on the other side of the trees on the left side of the picture.

Note: The Old Landfill  mentioned several times on this page refers to the whole "thumb" on the map. The area was used as a sanitary landfill by the City of Middletown some time ago.

This photo is looking back on the trail from the SE corner of the old landfill. The photo is facing South. This is about  three quarters of the new segment from State Route 4.

This photo and the one immediately below are of the same location with just a different angle. If you look closely you will see two cyclists on the trail.
This photo is almost the same as the one above. There are two cyclists using the trail and the berm of the trail is not yet complete.

This image was taken at the far Northeast corner of the old landfill looking South. The old landfill is off to the right of the
picture.
This is the far North end of the old city landfill just before the bike path turns South and begins heading towards State Route 73. This is about the halfway point of the trail.

This photo was taken about 1/4 mile down the trail from the start of the new segment. It is looking Northeast. The white pipes you see in the background are the site of the old city of Middletown landfill. The path curls to the left (North) to go around the landfill.
The photo is the same as the image above but is showing a cyclist on the trail.

This image is looking North from Rt. 4 entrance to Bike Trail. The trail that breaks off at the right of the photo is a ramp that goes up the levee to the small parking lot at State Route 4. The river is to the left and visible from the trail at this point.  The new segment is easily identified by the darker pavement.
