Main Street - Pinnacle Road Bike Path

Main Street Bridge (Moraine) over I-75 & Great Miami
River
(Staircase in Red)
Main Street
(Moraine) West to Deer Run Park
(formerly Pinnacle Road Park)
Complete 2.3 miles
Trail
News : This 2.3 mile trail was built by the City
of Moraine in 1991. It runs West from the Main Street Bridge over the Great
Miami River and I-75 in Moraine. The trail follows Main Street to Pinnacle Road.
It turns left (West) onto Pinnacle and ends at Deer Meadow Park (formerly
Pinnacle Park). See this Bing.com
map for your viewing pleasure. You can see all of the trails by going to
Bing and manipulating the map. I found out about this trail in 2008 when Mike
Monett first built a set of Google Earth maps of all the trails in Southwest
Ohio. Go to Dayton
Area Bike Trails Map to see all of them, including this
trail.
| The trail starts at the Main Street Bridge over I-75 and the Great Miami River. Here we see the entrance to the trail from the staircase in the middle of the Bridge. We are looking West towards the trail. Here the trail is the narrow (about 3' wide) sidewalk that you can see. | |
| This picture was taken from the staircase looking North so you could see the river, Interstate-75 and the Great Miami River Recreation Trail at the bottom of the Paul Law Memorial Bikestairs. There is a new standard sign at the bottom of the stairs that is being used in Montgomery, Miami, Greene and Clark counties for our ever expanding Miami Valley Trails System. | |
| Here we have the new bike trail sign. We are 5.3 miles South of the Stewart Street Bridge in downtown Dayton. The sign explains that the Payne Recreation Center and Splash Moraine are .8 miles West after you go up the stairs. | |
| Here is a photo of the stairs from the trail. There is a bike channel in the middle of the stairs to make it easier for you to get your bicycle up to Main Street. | |
| At left, we have left the bridge behind us and have ridden down the sidewalk to Eller Drive. There is a crosswalk you can see and we will cross Main Street to the South side here. The trail continues ahead. | |
| In this photo we have crossed Eller Drive and the photo is of the trail looking West. Main Street is now on our right. South on Eller Drive is Moraine Air Park , a private airport. There is a sign just behind us (out of the photo). | |
| In this photo we have crossed the intersection of Beechgrove Road at Main Street. We are .3 miles from the beginning of the trail and this bus stop is just across Beechgrove. | |
| Here we have crossed the next street; Swimming Hole Road. The trail runs down the middle of a small park that is between Swimming Hole Road and Main Street. We are looking West and we are .5 miles from the trail's beginning. | |
| At left we are looking back (East). Main Street is on our left and you can see Swimming Hole Road that follows alongside the trail in the little linear park. I used this shot because the tree's were beautiful on this Fall day. Swimming Hole Road dead ends just to the left of where this photo was taken. | |
| Here we have turned around at the same location as the photo above. The fence in the foreground and the lighted sign in the background mark the location of both Splash Moraine (a local water park), and the Payne Recreation Center of the City of Moraine. We are .7 miles from the trail's start. | |
| Here we are at the entrance to both
Splash Moraine and the Payne Recreation Center. It is at the left of the
photo. The trail continues on this side of Main Street and starts a
long, steep climb as Main Street turns to the North. You can see the
trail alongside the street lights on the left side of the road.
The trail passes on a road bridge over an active railroad in about .5 mile. |
|
| In this photo the trail crosses Main Street again at Pinnacle Road (which runs East from this location). We are looking South back along the trail. In the very far background you can see (maybe) the Dayton Mall area. You can see the Montgomery County Water Tower that you can see from I-75 as well as the Dayco Building which is also near the mall on the other side of the Miami Valley. | |
| Here we are in the same location as the previous picture, only facing East. The trail crosses Main Street and then Pinnacle and is then headed North again. There is a City of Moraine Fire Station just North of this location. The housing development on Pinnacle Road is called Heather Hills. You will ride by a sign that names the neighborhood. | |
| We are 1.4 miles from the trail's start at this location. This photo is looking North from Pinnacle Road. We will travel North for about .2 of a mile and get to "Pinnacle Road" again. But this time the trail will go to the left (West). In the far background of this photo you can see a red brick house which is at the next Pinnacle Road where the trail will cross Main Street again. | |
| Here we are looking back down the trail to the first Pinnacle Road crossing. At the left of this photo is another sign declaring this neighborhood Heritage Estates. This intersection has Johnson Trail going East from the intersection of Main Street and the second Pinnacle Road going West from here. | |
| This photo was taken from the same location as the one above. We are looking across Main Street to see the continuation of the trail along the North side of Pinnacle Road going West. Johnson Trail is behind us leading into Heritage Estates. We are 1.6 miles from the trail's start. | |
| In this photo we have ridden down Pinnacle Road to the West of Main Street. We are stopped at what once was Lylebrun Road. that crossed the trail here. It is now blocked off. We are looking back down the trail (East) towards Main Street. | |
| Here we are also looking back along the trail (East). We have arrived at the beginning of Deer Meadow Park. The entrance driveway to the park is at left in the photo. We are 2.1 miles from the trail's beginning at the Paul Law Memorial Staircase. | |
| This picture is on the entrance to Deer Meadow Park taken from across Pinnacle Road. The trail continues alongside the Park for another .2 miles to the end of the park making the trail a total of 2.3 miles long. |
