Smith Park Trail Spur

.8 miles from
Great Miami River Recreation Trail in
Middletown to Smith Park

Part Of
The Great Miami River Recreation Trail [GMRRT]  (Butler County)

This page shows the .8 mile spur from the Great Miami River Recreation Trial in Middletown East from the river to Smith Park in Middletown that was built in 2000. There is parking, restrooms and water here.
At right we see the start of the Smith Park Trail Spur (.8 miles). You cross Carmody Blvd.  near Columbia Road  and go down the stairs (which conveniently has runners for your bicycle wheels built into it). At the bottom of the stairs you turn left (North). This trail, which is .8 miles long, will lead us to Smith Park.

In the picture at left we are looking South back to the staircase. You may be able to see it about 1/4 mile from here. Carmody Blvd. is above us (see the telephone poles?) The trail is parallel to the road and running North and South. Shortly the trail turns right (East), running behind an industrial park which fronts on Hook Rood and passes into some woods.
Here at right is that short woods I told you about. We are looking West (back towards the staircase).

In this picture at left we have come out of the woods. This man and his children seem to be having a great outing. The trail leads West at the right of the picture to the staircase. The trail at this point is going around three sides of a square to get around the runway at Hook Field. Look at the map of Middletown Ohio at top to see what is happening.
The trail loops around the runway of Hook Field to get on the other side of the airport. Along the way we pass by the end of the runway and can see the landing lights. After we get around the runway we pass by the Middletown water treatment works visible in this picture. Here we are looking South towards Middletown

At left we have come to the end of the Smith Park Bike Spur (this is not an official name but one I made up). We are now going onto the Spur from the SouthWest corner of Smith Park. I've only got one more photo to show you.
The photo at right is one that I took in Smith Park of their map. If you look at the larger photo by clicking on the thumbnail you can see all the trails in Smith Park. It's a very nice place with full facilities; water, parking and several sets of restrooms.

At the bottom left of the map (SouthWest) is the connection to Bicentennial Commons. Their map says "1.2 miles to Bicentennial Commons." The number is correct. It's .8 miles to the "Middletown Trail" and another .4 miles South from there to the Bicentennial Commons.
