Greene County Ohio
(Opened May 1998)
The Xenia Trails Station was built on the site of the old Baltimore and Ohio freight yards on the Miami Street Extension. The Station, built on 7 acres, is the hub of all trail activities in Greene County, Ohio. From it trails lead in five directions to Dayton (Wast) , Springfield (North) , Jamestown (Southeast) , London (Northeast) and almost to Cincinnati (South) (See Table below) for all of the locations that can be reached from the Xenia Station.
Xenia Station Navigation Signs - Recently (2009) Greene County Parks installed new standard signs at Xenia Station to show you where each trail is, where it goes and how far are some major destinations. It is a part of an effort to make all trail signs in Montgomery, Greene & Miami County in identical formats. This was accomplished by Miami Conservancy District getting funds from the State of Ohio to accomplish this task.
| The Xenia Station is located on South Detroit Street OH 380 about 1 mile South of the US-35 and US-68 intersection. At that intersection is the Greene County Court House an imposing gray stone building that you can see on the right. | |
| Turn South on US-68 which
becomes OH-380 and go about one mile and
when you see the caboose on the right as you can see here you're
there. Turn right onto North Miami Avenue at the signal light and then right again into the
parking lot.
See Yahoo Maps for a satellite view of The Station |
|
| Here we are looking West from in front of The Station at the parking lot on that side Just left of the parked cars and alongside N. Miami Ave. is the Little Miami Scenic Trail. It travels West for about a mile and then turns South towards Cincinnati; its destination someday. | |
| Here is another shot of the replica train station building that contains, restrooms, a soft drink machine, literature and water. | |
| We are now looking East from
The Station which is just behind us to left to the parking area East of
the Station.
. You can see in the background the caboose painted in B&O colors at the end of the property near South Detroit Street. If you take the trail to the left of the picture you'll soon be traveling North to Yellow Springs and Springfield on the Little Miami Scenic Trail North. |
|
| At left we have another
picture of The Station taken from the East side.
There are benches on both sides of the Station. On a hot Summer day it's a good place to have your water and food. Although you can't see it, on this side of the Station are two water fountains. One is for drinking from and the other is for filling your water bottles. |
|
| In this photo we are looking East across South Detroit Street to the Prairie Grass Trail that starts on the other side. In a year or two Greene County Parks will be installing a bicycle bridge here so that riders on the Prairie Grass Trail and the unfinished Xenia-Jamestown Connector can get to the Station without having to cross the busy street like the cyclist below us. | |
|
Here are pictures and descriptions of the new navigational aids that have been added to Xenia Station for your use. |
Navigation Signs at Xenia Station |
| This is the first new
navigation sign. This sign is at the Northwest corner of Xenia Station. It
marks the beginning of the Creekside
Trail &
Creekside Recreation Trail. These two trails take you to Eastwood MetroPark in Montgomery County. There you can connect to downtown Dayton via the Mad River Recreation Trail. In downtown Dayton you will connect to the Great Miami River Recreation Trail (Montgomery County) |
|
| In the Southwest corner on the Station you find the connection to the Little Miami Scenic Trail South that runs almost to Cincinnati. You'll note on the bottom of the sign that it points left or to the beginning of the Creekside Trail. | |
| To the Northeast of the Station there is a connection for the Little Miami Scenic Trail North through downtown Xenia to Yellow Springs and Springfield. This sign has a map of downtown Xenia so you won't get lost on your way North. | |
| I liked this new picture of what the Station may have looked like when it was a railroad station. | |
| Across South Detroit Street (US-68) to the East from the Station is the beginning of the Prairie Grass Trail. which will take you to Cedarville, South Charleston and London. Eventually this trail which is a part of the Ohio To Erie Trail will connect to Columbus, Akron and Cleveland. | |
|
|
|
| Above is a photo of Xenia Station at US-68 (South Detroit Street) and N. Miami Avenue in Southern Xenia. I have annotated the photo to show you where each trail starts from the Station. The Station building is in the center of the photo will parking lots on each side. | |
