Winter is a notoriously slow time for trail news and trail usage. For this edition of Trail Talk we have fewer, but longer, articles about some of the activities going on around trail development in the Miami Valley. Leading off is an overview of the planning process begun by the Miami Valley Regional Planning Commission to update the Regional Bikeways Plan. This long range vision and plan was first adopted in 2008 and serves as a guide for the development of bike transportation in the region.

What a wonderful summer it has been out on the Miami Valley Trails. At about half over, there's still a lot of time (and reasons) to get out and enjoy the Nation's Largest Network of Paved, Off-Street Trails. Welcome to the summer 2014 edition of Trail Talk, the quarterly newsletter of Miami Valley Bike Trails. In this issue you'll find updates on two huge (literally and figuratively) projects that are adding significantly to the Miami Valley Trails.

The Miami Valley Trails are open daily and can be a beautiful way to experience the winter outdoors. But who are we trying to kid? There isn't any way around it: the 2013-14 winter has been brutal in the Miami Valley - as well as many other parts of the United States. The National Weather Service reports total snowfall for Dayton to be 45.3 inches for this season - a whopping 28.2 inches ABOVE NORMAL through February 17th. And it hasn't just been snowy - it has been cold.
