Bike the Aviation Heritage Trail

The Miami Valley Trails connect dozens of communities and natural spaces across 10+ counties in west-central Ohio. But they also connect a very special set of sites telling the story of this region's aviation history. Aviation Trail, Inc., is a non-profit corporation in partnership with the National Park Service to promote Aviation Heritage in the Dayton region. Aviation Trail, Inc. has developed a "Passport" program highlighting a dozen locations that recount the region's history in the development of powered flight. Most of the sites are close together in the vicinity of downtown Dayton and ATI has developed a BICYCLE ROUTE MAP to direct you to these locations. A couple are further afield, but are still accessible by bike from the Miami Valley Trails.

It is a truly fitting way to take in this history on a bike trip. Remember: the Wright brothers were bicycle makers before they were airplane inventors. Check out the Aviation Trail and take in a few of these locations the next time you are on the Miami Valley Trails.
