16th Rita Larson Memorial Ride

A 15 mile trail ride for families or choose a 30 or 60 mile trail and road ride to support the Simon Kenton Pathfinders' mission to maintain the trail.  More information on the Simon Kenton Pathfinders' web site.

The Simon Kenton Pathfinders of Urbana would like to invite bikers to ride the Rita Larson Memorial Ride on September 13, 2015.  This is their 16th annual bike ride, complete with continental breakfast, lunch, and snacks.  The routes are chosen each year, originating at the Urbana Depot on Miami Street and venturing out into rural Champaign County.  This year they were particularly excited to open the crushed limestone northern extension from Urbana to Bellefontaine.

Registration may be completed that day from 8-10 am, or you may obtain a registration form online at their website. Registration forms may also be obtained at the depot or on the trail. Tee shirts are available for pre-registration in adult and children’s sizes.

While the Simon Kenton Pathfinders have completed the construction of the trail, it must be noted that they are not finished with its maintenance.  The Pathfinders are responsible for seeing that the growth of foliage along the trail is under control:  the grass must be maintained, and the branches must be trimmed back.  Proceeds from SKP bike rides go directly to the maintenance of the trail and toward an endowment for the future maintenance.

The Pathfinders are an all-volunteer group, formed as a grass roots effort to promote the trail construction from Springfield to Bellefontaine.  The Miami Valley trail system is one of the largest in the country with over 300 miles in trails.

Questions regarding the ride may be directed to Nancy Lokai-Baldwin at 937 605-2434 or on the SKP website: simonkentonpathfinders.org.
