40th Anniversary of Little Miami State Park

The beginning of the Little Miami Scenic Trail was the result of dedicated people and events coming together to accomplish the near-impossible. In the mid-1970s, the railroad tracks that for 140 years had carried one of the most successful U.S. railroads, beginning with the Little Miami RR, were to be abandoned. Dedicated trail pioneers from Little Miami Inc., local governments, and funds from the new U.S. Rails to Trails Act worked together to buy the land and provide the funds to transform iron rails into a paved multi-purpose trail.

In 1979 the strip of land containing the trail—only 66 feet wide in most places—became an Ohio State Park. This September we celebrate 40 years of this unique and popular trail.

An event of the Friends of the Little Miami State Park, more details and registration links are available at their website.
