BALANCE Exhibit

The Mayflower Arts Center, located at 9 West Main Street in historic downtown Troy, Ohio is pleased to announce the juried selection of artwork to be on display in the Balance Exhibit, May 1 – June 24, 2017 in the Lobby Gallery. After a national call for entry was made, the Mayflower Arts Center Executive Director, Lisa Bauer and Artist/Co-Curator, Timothy Wells revealed the artwork/artist selections for the Balance Exhibit on April 15. Artwork was selected from entries received from local, regional, and national artists.

Balance is a juried show of bicycle-based or themed 2D and 3D work—held in conjunction with Troy, Ohio’s 2017 Sculptures on the Square public art exhibit of Mexican artist Gilberto Aceves Navarro’s Las Bicicletas—and will be on display in the Mayflower Arts Center’s Lobby Gallery, May 1-June 24, 2017. An artist reception is scheduled for Saturday, May 6 from 6:00-8:00pm. The event is open to the public and light refreshments will be served.

Participation in Balance was made available to all artists over the age of 16 through a national call for entry. Artists making 2D and 3D art based loosely or directly on bicycles, bicycle history, and bicycle culture were encouraged to submit their work. All submissions were juried by the Mayflower Arts Center’s exhibition committee. Along with three jury awards, there will also be a People’s Choice Award based on popular votes cast by visitors throughout the exhibition. The exhibition will be on display during the 2017 Troy Strawberry Festival (June 3-6, 2017), one of Ohio’s premiere and highest attended festivals. The public voting period will close on June 4 at 5:00pm. The Juror Awards will be announced on May 1 and the results of the People’s Choice Award will be announced on June 9 at 7pm. Details will be available at www.MayflowerArtsCenter.com.

The artists selected will be exhibited and promoted by a partnership between the Mayflower Arts Center, Troy Main Street, and the Miami County Visitors Convention Bureau in coordination with the 2017 Sculptures on the Square Las Bicicletas urban art display throughout downtown Troy, May through July. While Balance is being held in conjunction with the Sculptures on the Square public display, the works submitted to Balance are not related to Navarro’s work, style, context, or concept.
